A huge recruitment is coming for those who want to become assistant teachers in government primary schools. Once the new rules for primary teacher recruitment are finalized, a major recruitment notification will be published in the next two to three months. The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has already started preparations to recruit about half a lakh teachers.
According to sources from the Directorate of Primary Education, this notification will not include the quota for women and children. 93 percent of the recruitment will be based on merit.

Recently, a directive signed by Kamrun Nahar, Assistant Director (Recruitment) of the Policy and Operations Department of the DPE, has sought information about vacancies from all district and upazila education officers of the country.
It states that the recruitment of assistant teachers in government primary schools is an ongoing process. To complete this process smoothly, an updated list of vacancies for head and assistant teachers is required by June 30. This information should be sent via e-mail by May 20 in the prescribed format.
DPE sources say that currently, there are 8,043 vacant posts of assistant teachers in government primary schools across the country. By June, this number could reach 10,000 to 12,000. In total, about 20,000 positions could be vacant.
In addition, initiatives have been taken to fill the 32,000 head teacher posts that have been lying vacant for a long time. However, these posts will not be filled through direct recruitment, but through promotion from among the assistant teachers.

Therefore, it can be said that a larger number of candidates will be taken from the notification that will be issued in the future. Candidates will have the opportunity to select the posts at the time of application.
There will be no quota in the new rules of primary 2025. However, 20 percent will have priority for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science.
According to sources from the Directorate of Primary Education, according to the High Court verdict and the latest notification of the Ministry of Public Administration, 93 percent of the appointments will be made on the basis of merit in all grades of government, semi-government and autonomous institutions. The remaining 7 percent will be appointed on the basis of quota. The post of assistant teacher in primary is of the 13th grade. Therefore, there is no scope for keeping a quota of more than 7 percent in the appointment of this post. The 7 percent quota includes 5 percent for the children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters and heroines; 1 percent quota for ethnic minorities and 1 percent for disabled and third gender citizens. The other 93 percent will be appointed on the basis of merit.
Primary and Mass Education Advisor Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar had earlier said that 93 percent of the assistant teachers in primary schools will be appointed on the basis of merit.
According to sources, teachers in music and physical education will be appointed on the basis of clusters. Each district and upazila has a cluster of 20 to 25 schools. Accordingly, there are a total of 2,583 primary school clusters in the country. One music and physical education teacher will be appointed for each cluster. One music and physical education teacher will be appointed for each of the 20 to 25 schools. A total of 5,166 assistant teachers will be appointed for two posts in the cluster. Of these, 2,583 will be in music and 2,583 in physical education.
